Pet food
Nutrishell provides clean, high-quality crab meal products to the pet food market. They work as palatants in pet food and stimulates the dog or the cat's appetite.
Palatants are important because they enhance the taste, aroma and the texture characteristics of the product making the food more appealing to pets.
In addition to producing crab meal we also produce white fish meal with from backbones and heads from saithe, cod and haddock.
Palatability trials
The aim of the study was to examine if dogs would prefer an extruded food with crab meal (NutriCrab Pet) to a control food.
The study was performed by NMBU (the Norwegian University of Life Sciences) with 24 private dogs. In the crab meal food, 3% crab meal replaced 3% poultry meal, compared to the control diet.
RESULTS:

CONCLUSION:
Dog preferred to eat extruded food added 3% NutriCrab Pet to a control food (P<0,05).
This shows that crab meal can be applied as a palatability enhancer
